Battlefield: Campaign

I know I like to have my say online, usually just to stir the pot, but I am surprised with how some people are reacting to the US election. I found myself bristling at just how partisan people are being. People are relieved Obama is back in power and thankful the evil Romney has been silenced. All I feel is a sense of hopelessness that people have missed the point. Does anyone else feel that the problems we face are a little too simplistic to trust in a political party. It doesn't seem to matter who is in government, things are not getting better, well, the things that should matter anyway. We fight wars that shouldn't be fought, we ignore issues that should be of paramount importance. Our wealth grows, but our debt threatens to swallow us. We post silly status updates that reflect a mirage, rather than living out the change we so desperately look to these elected officials to bring us. I feel we should be fighting for what is right, not just for who gets elected. I'm not even sure I know what that is any more.
Gun control is ignored, allowing (if not outright encouraging) the continuing massacre that happens each year. Am I being cynical to suggest that money is more important that life?
Abortion is boiled down to such simplistic terms that both sides of the debate would rather die than try and find some form of common ground. Please don't tell me that this is because of the 24hr news cycle or that the issue has to be framed in a way that people understand. I should hope that we are brave enough to face the fact that we can't all win, that there isn't always a happy ending in this life.
I'm upset by all this, but I don't have a solution. I am just another person pointing out a problem without a solution. I think I just needed to put it out there. I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that we don't want to face the real problems around us. Maybe that feeling is just my stomach telling me to stop worrying and find some lunch.
